What is ARBIO Perú?
It is a Peruvian non-profit organization led by women, founded in 2010 in the Peruvian jungle. It manages and cares for 916 hectares of Amazonian forest (2264 acres) in the Las Piedras River basin, Madre de Dios. It studies and protects the giant trees of the forest. Above all, the species Shihuahuaco (Dipteryx sp) that is currently being overexploited. ¡ In the ARBIO forest there are trees that have more than 1000 years of life!
The purpose of ARBIO is to reconnect people with nature through the Amazon forest, prioritizing the study of the forest for sustainable management and offering forest conservation services for people and businesses.
The importance of the Amazon
60% of the Peruvian territory is covered by forests. Of that area more than 50% corresponds to Amazonian rainforest. Many scientists describe the Amazon as the heart of the planet, as this immense forest provides gigantic amounts of water pumping it from the subsoil. How so? Trees transport water from their roots to their leaves and, in them, evacuate to the atmosphere. This moisture emitted by the trees is called the "flying rivers", streams of water that the trees throw into the atmosphere bringing rain to Brazil and regions of neighboring countries such as Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina. This contribution of water to the atmosphere equals 20 million tons of water a day, more than the Amazon River pours into the Atlantic daily! The Amazon forest provides us with a great variety of environmental services, being the Amazon a perfect machine that regulates the climate of the entire planet. In addition to its role as a climate regulator, the Amazon is an inexhaustible source of biodiversity. It is estimated to contain more than 5 million species of fauna, of which we have only begun to discover a small fraction. In a single hectare of Amazonian forest, we find more varieties of trees than in all of Europe and North America combined, and a single tree can be home to more than 5,000 species of insects.
Ananay Hotels and ARBIO Perú

Protecting this ecosystem is a shared responsibility that requires the collaboration of governments, organizations and companies committed to conservation. Ananay Hotels exemplifies its commitment to the sustainability of the planet by protecting hectares of forest with ARBIO.
